The arrests of Somansh Prakash and Rahul Kumar in connection with alleged irregularities in the Jharkhand Graduate-Level Combined Competitive Examination (JSSC-CGL) on Friday indicate that the investigation is extending beyond individual allegations to examine the wider chain surrounding the examination’s conduct.

With investigators questioning the involvement of multiple persons, the focus remains on establishing what happened, how any alleged irregularities were facilitated and whether others were involved.

The significance of the latest arrests will ultimately lie in what the CID establishes from the evidence and questioning ahead. As the SIT continues to trace the examination trail, the probe could clarify the extent of the alleged irregularities and whether the case points to a broader failure in the recruitment process.

Incidentally, the Jharkhand CID on Thursday had arrested Prakash and Kumar in connection with alleged irregularities in the Jharkhand Graduate-Level Combined Competitive Examination (JSSC-CGL) conducted by the Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission on September 21 and 22, 2024. Both men were associated with the conduct of the examination, according to the CID.

Prakash, a native of Bihar’s Rohtas district, and Kumar, from Vaishali, were residing in Burari, Delhi, at the time of their arrest.
 

Probe Gathers Pace
The latest arrests expand an investigation already involving three members of the Tiwari family. The CID had arrested Abhay Tiwari, then a block supply officer in Poriyahat, Godda district, on July 22. His wife Sushama Kumari and brother Akshay Tiwari were subsequently arrested on August 18.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Jharkhand CID is examining the alleged irregularities in the 2024 examination and the roles of those linked to its conduct.
