The BJP has taken its campaign over alleged recruitment-exam irregularities and cases against protesting students to the district level, signalling that the issue remains politically active despite the State government’s earlier decisions on disputed examinations.
Protests Across Six Districts
The BJP held demonstrations in six Jharkhand districts on September 8 as part of its statewide campaign over the JPSC-JSSC recruitment controversy. Former Chief Minister Babulal Marandi led the protest in Dumka, while former Chief Minister Raghubar Das participated in Hazaribagh. Union Minister Raksha Khadse joined the demonstration in Garhwa.
The protests centre on allegations of irregularities in recruitment examinations and the criminal cases registered against students during the agitation.
Demand for Withdrawal of Cases
The BJP has demanded that cases filed against protesting students be withdrawn, arguing that the action against them should not overshadow their grievances over the examination process. The party has also pressed for an independent CBI investigation into the recruitment-related controversies.
The demands come after the government cancelled 22 recruitment examinations and ordered probes into 23 others conducted since 2014 by JPSC, JSSC and outsourced agency TDPL.
The Political Pressure Continues
The latest demonstrations indicate that the recruitment controversy has moved beyond the examination cancellations themselves. Student groups have separately continued demanding withdrawal of cases and action against officials accused of using force during protests.
From Protest to Accountability
The BJP’s district-level mobilisation keeps pressure on the government to address the unresolved aspects of the dispute. With examination reforms, investigations and the fate of cases against protesters still under scrutiny, the next phase will be shaped less by the protests themselves than by whether the competing demands for accountability, due process and a credible recruitment system produce tangible action.
