As per the India Meteorological Department placing  parts of central and southern India under its highest rainfall warning, a wider belt spanning eastern and northeastern states remains under a heavy-rain fall, keeping weather preparedness firmly in focus.

Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued red alert for extremely heavy rainfall over isolated places of Chhattisgarh, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Telangana for the next two days beginning September 23,2026. The Met Department has predicted heavy rainfall over Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Bihar, Jharkhand, Kerala, Maharashtra, West Bengal and Sikkim today ( September 24,2026). The weather department also forecast thunderstorms accompanied with highly gusty winds over Madhya Pradesh and Parts of North-East today. 

Four States Under Red Alert

The IMD has issued a red alert for extremely heavy rainfall at isolated places in Chhattisgarh, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Odisha and Telangana over the following two days. The warning indicates the possibility of intense rainfall concentrated over specific locations rather than uniformly across the states.

Heavy Rain Extends Across a Wider Belt

The weather system is expected to affect a much broader region. Heavy rainfall has been forecast across Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Bihar, Jharkhand, Kerala, Maharashtra, West Bengal and Sikkim during the next phase of the forecast period.

The spread of the warning across eastern, northeastern, central and southern parts of the country points to a continuing period of unsettled weather, requiring local conditions and updated forecasts to be monitored closely.

Thunderstorms Add Another Risk

Alongside rainfall, the IMD has forecast thunderstorms accompanied by highly gusty winds over Madhya Pradesh and parts of the Northeast. The combination makes weather conditions potentially disruptive beyond areas under the rainfall alerts themselves.

Delhi Expected to Remain Largely Clear

The national capital is forecast to see mostly clear skies with no rain. Delhi’s maximum temperature is expected to remain around 34–35°C, while the minimum is likely to range between 23–25°C.

Preparedness Must Follow the Forecast

The significance of the warning lies not only in where rain is expected, but in how quickly local conditions can change. With extremely heavy rainfall forecast in four states and heavy rain across several others, continued monitoring of official advisories remains essential as the weather system evolves.
