Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah inaugurated development projects worth ₹1,472 crore and flagged off the country’s first LPG-powered train roll-out.

Shah, while dedicating the country’s first LNG-powered train to the nation from Sabarmati on Sunday, said this initiative will help protect the environment.

Incidentally, after PM Modi dedicated the Freight Corridor, Rapid Rail System and premium railway stations, LPG-powered trains rolled out on tracks in the country.

By inaugurating India’s hydrogen-powered train, Modi Ji had brought India into the league of the four countries in the world possessing this technology, said Home Minister. 

He further said, successful trial run of first long-haul double-stack container train from Mumbai to Vadodara will double our freight-carrying capacity. 

“Concept of ‘Make in India’ and ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ envisioned by Modi Ji has resulted in the country developing the capability to manufacture equipment such as engines domestically to a large extent”, Shah added.

Notably, Diesel consumption by the Railways has declined from 293 crore litres in 2015–16 to 108 crore litres in 2024–25.

Under the current Modi Govt. 98% of railway coaches have been equipped with bio-toilets, while LHB coach production has increased by 57% and locomotive production capacity has risen by 66%, budget for railway safety has also been increased by 67%. 

Records revealed that before 2014, railway electrification stood at only 30%, under the Modi Govt. it has increased to 99.6%, and we will soon complete the remaining 0.4% as well. 

Home Minister has also inaugurated the WAG-12 Maintenance Shed, built at a cost of ₹700 crore for the maintenance of railway locomotive engines.

*‘Kavach’ was introduced on the Sabarmati–Kalol–Sabarmati, Ahmedabad–Palanpur and Ahmedabad–Samakhiyali railway sections, along with the commencement of doubling work on the Sabarmati–Sarkhej railway route.
