A major power project is taking shape in Jharkhand—but its significance lies not just in megawatts, but in how reliably and responsibly that power can support the state’s next phase of growth.

A Project Taking Shape

Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has received a Limited Notice to Proceed (LNTP) from DVC CIL Power Pvt Ltd (DVCCIL), the joint venture of Damodar Valley Corporation and Coal India, for the main plant package of the 2×800 MW Chandrapura thermal power project in Jharkhand. The formal notice to proceed will follow the requisite environmental clearances and completion of the LNTP period.

Technology at the Core

The project will comprise two 800 MW ultra-supercritical units, with L&T responsible for designing, manufacturing and supplying critical equipment including boilers, steam turbines, generators and electrostatic precipitators. Its scope also covers installation, testing, commissioning and associated mechanical, electrical, control and civil works.

The use of ultra-supercritical technology is intended to improve thermal efficiency and reduce specific emissions, supporting more efficient and reliable generation.

Powering Growth, Responsibly

With 1,600 MW of installed capacity, Chandrapura can add significant strength to Jharkhand’s power-generation base at a time when industrial expansion and economic activity are driving greater electricity demand.

The Larger Message: Growth Needs Reliable Power

Energy infrastructure is ultimately about more than building plants. It is about creating the dependable foundation on which industries, businesses, communities and livelihoods can grow. Chandrapura’s next chapter will therefore be measured not only by capacity added, but by the balance it achieves between energy security, efficiency and environmental responsibility.
