Following the suicide of a student inside the Indian Institute of Information Technology (IIIT) Ranchi, located in the Khelgaon police station area on Saturday night, students were in a state of grief.

“We are in a state of shock and grief. We don’t know why he committed suicide”, cribbed a student of the IIIT, Ranchi, echoing the sentiments of its many students, staff and office bearers.

A large group of students, some carrying banners reading “ We demand better facilities. Save Us”, stood in front of the IIIT Ranchi gate. 

As per police records, a student named Aditya, who hailed from Purnia in Bihar, was found dead inside his hostel room at the IIIT Ranchi.

Aditya’s room did not open by around 11:30 PM. This prompted concern and the eventual breaking down of the door, where he was found dead.

The IIIT Ranchi hostel is located in the Khelgaon area of Ranchi, Jharkhand.

As a result, fellow students staged a protest on campus citing a lack of facilities and raising concerns last night.

The police reportedly arrived at the scene and have initiated an investigation into the cause of death. The body was sent for post-mortem.

The police are investigating the motive behind the death of this Bihar student.
