Wooden Khadau Chappal are traditional Indian wooden sandals, also known as Charan Paduka.Historically worn by ancient sages, saints, and priests in India.

However, when Baba Ramdev and Chief Minister Hemant Soren wore Wooden Khadau and got photographed on Sunday ( October 18, 2026) inside his ancestral house in Nemra, they attracted the attention of viewers.

The occasion was the Shradh function connected with the departed mother Rupi Soren of the CM Soren.

Normally, Khadau chappal is used for (home) mandirs, religious rituals, meditation, or as sacred gifts (Guru Ji gift/Dakshina).

As it is, Khadau is made from a single wooden plank for the base with an elevated platform and a carved toe-peg (knob) between the big and second toes.Though Baba Ramdev uses it regularly, Chief Minister Soren was spotted using it together with Baba Ramdev for the first time.

Khadau is crafted from natural woods like Sheesham, rosewood, teak, or white wood, often featuring brass artwork or floral carvings.

The rigid wooden surface and central peg apply natural pressure to the soles, stimulating foot reflexology points.

Scientists say, wood acts as an electrical insulator, traditionally believed to help preserve the body's natural energy and bio-electric flow.

The elevated design keeps feet off the ground, improves foot ventilation, prevents fungal buildup, and encourages mindful walking.

It appears that Chief Minister Hemant Soren inspired by sages and saints and motivated by Baba Ramdev wore khadau with a sense spiritual, religious, or ascetic sentiments to overcome grief caused by the death of his mother.

In any case, Khadau has its ancient roots and its minimalist design, it carried deep spiritual and cultural significance.
