Love him or hate him,you can't ignore fodder scam convict Lalu Prasad. He has been in the same upper division cell where he stayed after the 2013 conviction in Ranchi’s Birsa Munda Jail.

In the upper division cell, he is entitled to avail one mosquito net, one newspaper to read every day, and a television set apart from the usual cell bed.As per the jail manual,he was allowed to meet three visitors every week.

Though he was allowed to consume home-cooked food in the jail,he preferred to cook food for himself. The former railway minister had undergone a heart surgery in 2014 and has several restrictions in his diet.

Other jail inmates were not be allowed to meet him.Right now, there is a long list of 200 applicants who had sought to meet him.In view of the jail manual, they were unable to get permission from the jail authorities to meet him.

Against this backdrop,Lalu is learnt to be watching TV,reading newspapers and cooking vegetarian food."Laluji often offers his cooked rice, dal and sabji to us",smiles a jail staff echoing the sentiments of his colleagues.

Since Lalu was inside prison, several of his party RJD leaders have lodged complaint that they were not permitted to meet.Though they returned to Bihar disappointed,Jharkhand CM Raghubar Das has said he can not help."Jail manual will be  followed",says Das.

Lalu, who was convicted earlier in the day by a CBI court for fraudulent withdrawal of Rs.89 lakh from Deoghar treasury, straightaway went to his cell to take rest.

“He has been kept in an upper grade cell where he stayed in 2013. He straightaway went to his cell to take rest,” said jail superintendent Ashok Choudhary. In 2013, Lalu had to spend 77 days in the same cell until he got bail from the Supreme Court.
