"Apna Mask Sahi Se Lagana Hai.Carona Ko Harana Hai(Wear Mask Properly to Defeat Carona). With this slogan, the campaign was launched in Ranchi today.
The backdrop is this. With the relaxation in lockdown norms and resumption of economic activities, people are now coming out of their homes and spending time in public places and markets.
However, many of them don't wear masks protecting their nose and mouth appropriately.
A number of them don't wash and sanitise their hands and maintain distance from each other.
To bring about awareness about the necessity to strictly follow these practises in order to prevent the spread of COVID-19, the District Administration of Ranchi, UNICEF in Jharkhand and 14 NGOs-JSLPS and IEC cell of National Health Mission-have come together to launch a 15 -day campaign in urban areas of the state capital from 18 September to 2 October.
Under the campaign volunteers from NGOs will inform people in crowded public places and motivate them to wear their masks covering their mouth and nose and how to dispose of a used mask.
Prasanta Dash, Chief of UNICEF in Jharkhand said, ‘’It is extremely important that everyone follows safe and hygiene behaviours. Only by wearing a mask properly can we take care of ourselves and our loved ones. It is a great initiative that the District Administration along with the NGOs taken to promote appropriate usage of masks and UNICEF is very happy to collaborate."
The campaign was inaugurated by Mr Chhavi Ranjan, Deputy Commissionaire of Ranchi. Ranjan said, “Proper wearing of a mask is an important behaviour which can prevent the spread of COVID-19 and save us and our loved ones from this deadly infection."
JSLPS in this campaign will provide low-cost cloth masks made by self-help groups at various places. NGOs will also play audio messages through audio vans to inform people and to spread the message.
