Contrast is too clear to ignore. In London, several police officers attempted to arrest a man after he allegedly broke COVID regulations at Speakers' Corner in London's Hyde Park.

The man is seen resisting as officers attempt to push him into the back of a van. He is heard saying: "This is a false arrest! I have committed no crime." This footage was filmed on November 15.

On the same day in New Delhi, the man, woman and children walking along the road sides without wearing mask was visible. The police looked the other way.

The scene is no different in other cities including Ranchi where mask covered face of people in market places is a rarity. The state administration has carried out campaign to mobilise people to wear mask and maintain a distance of at least two metres from each other.

“ There is no problem”, yells a jeans clad youth carrying a smart phone in his hand. His opinion is symptomatic of general opinion of people in the national capital as well as Ranchi, the state capital of Jharkhand.

No wonder why COVID-19 cases are spreading quick and fast. In Delhi, the number has sky rocketed as tests are being conducted widely. Not so in Ranchi where the number of test is below triple digit on a daily basis.

The need of the hour is to make the government strict in enforcing COVID-19 guidelines. “ The London type of action is required to break the spread of coronavirus”, thinks Dr Sudhir Singh, a physician.
