Making South Eastern Railway a “Zero Scrap” Railway is one of the mission areas of this zone. Necessary steps are being taken by all the Divisions and Workshops to realise value from the sale of unserviceable materials lying along tracks, workshops, sheds, coaching depots etc. 

As a result of continuous efforts to accomplish the mission of the “Zero Scrap” zone, South Eastern Railway has achieved a Record Scrap Sale of Rs.257crore during the period from April 2021 to January 2022 of the current financial year (2021-22). The scrap lots have been sold on a competitive and transparent e-auction platforms. 

This is in comparison to the sale of scrap materials worth Rs.151 crore achieved during the corresponding period of the last fiscal. 

The scrap sale of Rs.257 crore has been achieved by selling 26257 MT of scrap rails, 97167 number of pre-stressed concrete sleepers, 1045 number of condemned wagons, 67 number of condemned coaches, 1 number condemned loco & 2 number diesel locos, 872 MT of non-ferrous scrap, 16284 MT of ferrous scrap and other miscellaneous items.

Sale of scrap materials helps in revenue generation and also in maintaining better upkeep of the railway premises.
