Arup Chatterjee, a TV journalist and owner of a regional Hindi News channel News 11 Bharat, was arrested under the charges of extortion, blackmailing, and criminal conspiracy.

The FIR  was lodged on June 27 under 10 sections of the Indian Penal Code at Govindpur police station in Dhanbad on the complaint of a business person Rakesh Kumar, 40. 

Speaking to the press after his arrest, Chatterjee said, "In Dhanbad, coal theft worth around Rs 2,000 crore has been carried out. We unearthed the scam and and will continue to do so… I am not afraid of jail…. I am not a criminal."
