Calcutta High Court has granted bail to lawyer of Jharkhand High Court, Rajiv Kumar. 

Kumar is expected to be released from jail in Kolkata soon.

Jharkhand High Court advocate Kumar was arrested by Kolkata Police on July 31 evening on charges of blackmailing Kolkata based businessman from whom he had allegedly demanded Rs 10 crore to withdraw a PIL seeking CBI inquiry.

The Kolkata Police arrested a Jharkhand-based lawyer on charges of blackmailing a city-based businessman from whom the accused had allegedly demanded ₹10 crore to withdraw a PIL.

The Kolkata Police had detained Rajiv Kumar from a mall on Harrison Road in Barabazar, Kolkata. The Lalbazar Anti Rowdy Squad (ARS) police team of Kolkata Central area along with Hair Street police took action. 

The Kolkata Police has written a letter to the Secretary of the Jharkhand State Bar Council regarding the arrest of the advocate. It has been written in the letter that Rajiv Kumar, a resident of Gauri Shankar Nagar of Argora police station area, was arrested on July 31 at 9 pm.
