*Contrast is visible in the GoI and Jharkhand government’s advertisements celebrating the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri in Jharkhand on October 2, 2022.
The contrast is too obvious to be missed.
Everybody knows that the BJP and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and JMM leader and Chief Minister Hemant Soren are political rivals in India today.
Their rivalry became visible in their printed advertisements on Sunday. Consider this.
While the Central government has jointly advertised the birth anniversary of two stalwarts of the nation- Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri, the state government of Jharkhand has published an advertisement carrying a message linked with only Mahatma Gandhi.
It does not mention a word about the late Lal Bahadur Shastri, Ex-Prime Minister of India who gained popularity due to his honesty and “ Jai Jawan, Jai Kisaan” slogan.
In fact, October 2 is the date of birth of both Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri.
In its advertisement, the GoI has designed images of both Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri with a picture of Narendra Modi below. It does not mention the post of Prime Minister under his name.
In the advertisement of the Jharkhand government via its Information and Public Relations Department, the picture of Maharana Gandhi is designed and placed under two pictures. One,Ramesh Bais and two,Hemant Soren. They figure on top under their designations of Governor and Chief Minister respectively.
These two advertisements were placed together and published by the Hindi daily Dainik Bhaskar, Ranchi edition, on page 9, October 2, 2022.
In GoI’s advertisement, the text carrying a quoted message of Narendra Modi in Hindi reads: “ Gandhiji or Shastriji ki Janam jayanti par kritagya Rashtra ka koti koti naman(The nation offers salute to Gandhiji and Shastriji on their birth anniversary).
Alongside, the text mentioned in the advertisement of the state government is in the form of a message in Hindi under the caption “ Sandesh.”
The text begins by stating,” aaj October 2 hai, hamare rashtrapita mahatma Gandhiji ka janam din hai…( Today is October 2, the day is the birthday of our nation’s father Mahatma Gandhi…).
Both advertisements have incorporated the emblem of the state government and the GoI. Notably, while the colour of the Centre’s ad is a mixture of white, yellow and saffron, the colour used in the ad of the state government is white, red and green.
