Two incidents in the West Singhbhum district of Jharkhand have brought to light one fact- Maoists are still active there.

Both incidents took place on Friday- Saturday. The first incident took place in the Rengra forest area falling under Tonto police station where Maoists launched an attack on a team of CRPF personnel who were involved in a search operation by triggering an IED blast which led to the injury of a CRPF jawan, it is learnt.

The injured CRPF jawan was airlifted and admitted to a private hospital in Ranchi. “We had built a green corridor to airlift him”, said a police officer of West Singhbhum.

West Singhbhum SP Asutosh Shekhar told media persons that security forces have launched search operations to contain Left Extremist Wing. They found that these Maoists had set up IEDs in several areas of the forest.

The second incident took place inside the Podiyahat area where security forces had unearthed around a dozen live IEDs.

This recovery was made during the search operation being carried out by 60 Battalion of CRPF and Jharkhand Armed forces in the Goilkera area of Podiyahat. All recovered IEDs were defused even as the search operation reportedly continued.
