After conducting test and appointing them, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Wednesday handed over appointment letters to 107 Assistant Public Prosecutors, Vandana Dadel

The appointment letters were given to these PPs inside the state secretariat in Ranchi in the presence of Chief Secretary Sukhdeo Singh, Home Secretary and Principal Secretary to CM, Vandana Dadel and Secretary to CM, Vinay Kumar Choubey.

Notably, a Public Prosecutor is the agent of the state to represent the interest of common people on behalf of the state government in the criminal justice system at the district level. In fact, the prosecution of the accused is the duty of the state, but not individually the duty of the aggrieved party. They are appointed in almost all states by the state government.

The appointment of these Assistant PPs was result of nearly five month old Jharkhand High Court’s directive, in response to a PIL, to Jharkhand Public Service Commission to complete the process of appointment of APPs.

The division bench comprising Chief Justice Dr Ravi Ranjan and Justice Sanjay Kumar Dwivedi had held that “dispensation of criminal justice system is on the verge of collapse in the state of Jharkhand” due to non- appointment of APPs,
