With his 10-day custody remand ending on Tuesday, the ED presented Chhavi Ranjan in the PMLA court. And in response, after Judge Dinesh Rai issued an order for his judicial custody, Chhavi Ranjan, suspended IAS officer and former Deputy Commissioner, Ranchi, was sent to Birsa Munda central jail, Ranchi.

On May 4, the ED arrested Chhavi Ranjan on allegations of his involvement in a land scam in Ranchi. On May 7, ED secured custody remand for interrogation for 6 days. 

Then on May 12, they presented before the PMLA court and again gained 4-day custody remand. In all, his 10-day custody remand ended on May 16 when Judge Dinesh Rai sent him to jail.

ED has alleged that Chhavi Ranjan was the “mastermind” of the land scam. Investigations by the central agency had revealed that 
the registry of Army land at Bariatu and land at Cheshire Home Road were bought and sold on the basis of fake documents.

The ED had interrogated seven people arrested in the land scam case. Everyone had accepted in front of Chhavi Ranjan during interrogation that Ranchi former DC was the mastermind of this entire land scam. It was on his advice that the land traders committed forgery.

In the army land scam case, on April 13, the ED raided a total of 18 locations including Bihar and West Bengal including Ranchi, Simdega, Jamshedpur and Hazaribagh in the army land scam case. 

The ED also raided the Jamshedpur and Ranchi residences of Chhavi Ranjan, former deputy commissioner of Ranchi and current secretary of the social welfare department. Seven people were also arrested on the same day.
