She is in Suriname where President Droupadi Murmu has been conferred with its highest civilian award.

This award was conferred  by President of Suriname , Chandrikapersad Santokhi to honour the deep-rooted bilateral ties with India in its capital city Paramaribo.

Suriname is a small country on the north eastern coast of South America, a home land of indigenous population who lived under Dutch colony for long and thereby have developed a melting culture.

India under Prime Minister Narendra Modi regime has developed a strong bond with Suriname where Murmu had landed on Sunday on a three-day state visit. It is her first foreign tour since assuming office in July last year.

She was conferred with the highest civilian honour of Suriname ‘Grand Order of the Chain of the Yellow Star’ by the President of Suriname at a ceremony held at the Presidential Palace office in Paramaribo, states PTI quoting a statement in New Delhi.
