Princess of Jharkhand Preeti Lakra won a bronze medal in the triple jump event at the 66th National School Games at Tatya Tope Stadium in Bhopal on Wednesday.
Preeti Lakra who hopped and jumped from 11.59 metres and gained a bronze medal, is a trainee athlete at the Jharkhand government-run residential training center in Hazaribagh.
This year Preeti Lakra won and gained a silver medal in the Junior Federation Cup.
The triple jump, sometimes referred to as the hop, step and jump or the hop, skip and jump, is a track and field event, similar to the long jump. As a group, the two events are referred to as the "horizontal jumps".
Preeti Lakra runs down the track and performed a hop, a bound and then a jumped into the sand pit to attract the audience clapping.
Notably, the School Games Federation of India which was set up in 1954 is affiliated and approved by the Government of India’s Sports Ministry and Indian Olympic Federation and is a member of the International School Sports Federation and Asian School Sports Federation.
Preeti Lakra is among 3,476 athletes from different states were sweating for medals in multi-disciplinary national school games in Bhopal and Gwalior. The school education minister, Inder Singh Parmar, and sports and youth welfare minister, Yashodhara Raje Scindia, had inaugurated the 66th National School Games at Tatya Tope Stadium in Bhopal.
