Two incidents linked with Maoists have surfaced on the day of Jagannath Rath Yatra. The first incident in a forest area falling under Tumbahaka village in Chaibasa( West Singhbhum district) of Jharkhand pertains to the recovery of five IEDs.

The recovery of these five IEDs planted by CPI( Maoist) ultras to target security personnel on the anti - Maoist operation averted casualties.

Reports state that in the course of the combing operation, the security personnel detected the explosives in the forest near Tumbahaka village on the eve of Rath Yatra, said West Singhbhum SP Asutosh Shekhar.

The second incident took place in Maoist - hit Bijapur district in Chhattisgarh on Tuesday when a policeman was hacked to death by Maoists. The crime was committed in the early hours at Patakutru village under Kutru police station limits where victim assistant constable Sanjay Kumar Vedja had gone to meet his relatives, said a report quoting a senior police officer.

“Vedja, posted at Bhadrakali police station, was attached to the police reserve center in Bijapur town. He was on leave since June 11 and he went to Patakutru on Monday to visit his relatives.”
