Muharram procession Saturday in Bokaro was halted after four men were electrocuted and 13 others were injured.

The incident occurred while the ‘Tazia’ came in contact with an 11,000 high-voltage tension wire, resulting in a blast.

Notably, the Muharram procession was taken out on the first month of the Islamic calendar and holds great significance for Muslims as it is Islamic New Calender- widely known as Al-Hijra. However, the 10th day of the month, known as Ashura, is mourned by Muslims in remembrance of the martyrdom of Prophet Muhammad’s grandson, Hussain Ibn Ali.

Following the electrocution -incident in Bokaro, all injured were immediately rushed to the Bokaro Thermal DVC Hospital for treatment where their “condition” was “critical”.
