Birsa Munda zoo is home to
Scores of people visited Birsa Munda Zoo in Ormanjhi, Ranchi on the occasion of the International Tiger day on Saturday.
The visitors who had come from far flung areas of Bihar, Odisha and Jharkhand to watch nine tigers residing in this Birsa Munda zoo.
In fact, this zoo is not only a park where many kinds of wild animals and birds are kept so that people can look at them, is a tiger breeding centre too.
As a result, the number of tigers has been increasing over the years. Among nine big cats of this zoo, seven are tigress and male tigers.
One male tiger is white in colour and called Jawa whereas second male tiger is called Mallik.While Jawa was brought from Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh, Mallik had come from Hyderabad zoo.
The most attractive celebrity among these big cats were tigress Anushka and her five cubs.
The 13- year old Anushka’s five tigress cubs were named after five rivers-Krishna,Kaveri,Luxmi,Saraswati and Tapti.All five cubs were now adult.” We are waiting for them to become pregnant”, smiles a zoo staff.” Efforts were on for their breeding.”
Historically,another tigress is Hyderabad zoo associate Gorri who is being promoted to breed.
In any case, Birsa Munda zoo is home to Anushka and her seven female cubs turned adult tigress.
