Lakhpati Didis in villages! What does it mean?

While addressing the nation from the ramparts of the Red Fort on the 77th Independence Day on Tuesday, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi said that the Government is working with Women’s Self Help Groups (SHGs) with the aim of creating 2 crore ‘Lakhpati Didis’ in villages. 

The PM also informed that 10 crore women are today associated with Women’s Self-Help Groups. “In villages today, one can find a Didi in the Bank, in the Anganwaadi and a Didi to provide medicines.”

The Prime Minister spoke about agri-tech and made a pitch for leveraging the potential of science and technology in rural development. 

By stating that 15,000 Women’s Self-Help Groups would help to become Lakhpati he meant that the government in league with central banks will provide loans and training for operating and repairing drones.

What kind of services these drones will provide through SHG women? They will operate these drones to provide socio-health services and thereby earn money at the village level across India.

It is expected to revolutionize health services and facilitate rural men, women and children to get drone - ambulances to begin with.

This means, as PM Modi had explained during his speech,“Drone ki Udaan” will be carried out by these Women’s Self-Help Groups.
