The Ravan Dahan or burning of Ravana’s effigy on Dussehra at Morhabadi Maidan in Ranchi has been digitally triggered by Chief Minister Hemant Soren. 

Soren triggered a fire through a remote control device and burnt three effigies of Ravan, Kumbhkaran and Meghnath. 

The burning of these effigies was followed by a cultural programme. Thousands of people participated in the Ravan dhan programme, marking the end of the nine-day festivities of Navratri. Dussehra marks the celebration of the victory of 'good over evil.' 

It is observed on the tenth day in the Hindu calendar month of Ashvin. The celebration honours Lord Rama's victory over the ten-headed demon king, Ravana. 

There is much folklore attached to the celebrations of Dussehra. According to Ramayana, the day started being celebrated after Lord Rama defeated the ten-headed Ravan who abducted Sita. 

People witnessed the burning of these large effigies of Ravan( 70 feet tall), Meghanath( 60 feet tall)and Kumbhakaran( 65 feet tall). 

Now, the Navratri festivities have come to an end with the burning of Ravana's effigies in various parts of the country. Incidentally, over Rs 15 lakhs were spent by the organised - Punjabi Hindu Biradari.

The effigies of Ravan, Meghnath and Kumbhkaran were made by Muslim artisans from Gaya in Bihar.
