Jharkhand needs to follow the Odisha government in its decision to provide free Wi-Fi on the campuses of all state-run universities.

The Naveen Patnaik government aims to give university students easy access to online study materials and e-books.

Hemant Soren's government has not taken any move like this. However, in neighbouring Odisha, its higher education department special secretary Ramakanta Nayak has reportedly asked registrars of all state-run universities to furnish detailed estimates for the installation of Wi-Fi facilities on the campuses.

"The Odisha government intends to provide free Wi-Fi for students on university campuses as most of the study materials are nowadays available online," Nayak wrote in a letter dated November 1 to all registrars.
