Even as the ruling Soren family appears to be in trouble, Kaplans Soren, wife of Ex CM Hemant Soren, who is in jail on charges of money laundering, has joined politics. 

First consider Kalpana Soren’s debut in politics. She took off from the platform of the JMM’s 51 th establishment day function held in Giridih on Monday.

Kalpana belonged to JMM, headed by her father- in- law Shibu Soren. During her five- minute speech, she played an emotional card by telling the audience that she was Jharkhand’s daughter- in- law.

“If adopted by people,I will work as daughter”, Kalpana Soren who was spotted wiping tears off her eyes, said.The JMM office bearers and workers greeted her emotionally. Many of them expressed their sentimental support to her.

However, all is not well for her family. While husband Hemant Soren was in jail in the ED’s money laundering case, the Ranchi civil court took cognisance of yet another criminal case lodged by the ED. 

In this case of the ED, the court has passed cognisance order under Section 174 of the IPC for not abiding by multiple summons served to him.

In brief, the section 174 of the IPC, means it is a crime of not obeying a legal order to attend at a certain place in person or by agent, or departing therefor without authority.

As per the same, the order requires personal attendance, etc., in a Court of Justice. Punishment?Simple imprisonment for 1 month, or fine of 500 rupees, or both.

In addition, the Lokpal in New Delhi on Monday ordered the CBI to probe within six months two properties belonging to JMM president Shibu Soren under The Lokpal and Lokayuktas Act, 2013. 

The direction came while disposing of a complaint filed on August 5, 2020, by the MP of a rival political party. 

The complainant had urged the Lokpal to investigate “57 properties” in Ranchi, Dhanbad, Dumka, and other places belonging to former Jharkhand CM Shibu Soren. 

The Lokpal had asked the CBI to conduct a preliminary enquiry (PE) after which the agency mentioned 82 properties, allegedly linked to the Sorens.
