Eleven years after two suspected “police informers” Bhushan Kumar Singh and Ram Govind were murdered by Naxals in Torpa area of Khunti in Jharkhand, the local court in Ranchi convicted ex JMM MLA Polus Surin and veteran Naxal, Jetha Kaschap on Saturday. 

The conviction order was passed by Additional Judicial Commissioner Dinesh Kumar. 

The quantum of punishment will be announced by the court on April 10. 

Among the rest four accused, three women and one man called Krishna Mahato were acquitted in this Naxal attack case dating back to 2013 in Torpa area of Khunti district in Jharkhand. 

The FIR ( 27/2013)was filed at Karra police station in Khunti. In this double murder case, the Naxals had branded the deceased as “police informer.” 

In all, there were six accused including the then JMM MLA Polus Surin, Krishna Mahato and Bhushan Kumar Singh. In 2010, Polus Surin was the JMM MLA in Jharkhand to have had Maoist links. 

Surin is on record having written a letter to Jharkhand Assembly Speaker to resign as MLA just to make way for the then Chief Minister Shibu Soren to get elected to the Assembly from Tamar Assembly constituency in time to retain his seat.
