Before CBI files charge sheet, Anup Majhi, a key suspect in a suspected multi-crore coal theft scam in West Bengal, turned himself.

He surrendered in to a CBI court in Asansol on Tuesday morning, according to reports quoting an official.

Records show that Majhi, also known as Lala, had been on the run for quite some time. "He surrendered before a special court in Asansol this morning," PTI report quoted one CBI official as saying.

The alleged scam involves mines located in the Kunustoria and Kajora areas in and around Asansol, West Bengal.

Previously, the Supreme Court had granted Majhi temporary protection from arrest, provided that he cooperated with the investigation.

The CBI is ready to file charge sheet in this case.
