Kalpana Soren, wife of ex CM Hemant Soren who is in jail on charges of money laundering linked with a land scam, is going to win the Gandey Assembly by- poll, according to the exit poll data obtained by JharkhandStateNews.com


The exit poll was conducted by a group of social workers on the day of by poll in Gandey on May 21. As many as 6450 voters were contacted online on a random basis.

More than 4,480 voters preferred to reply saying they had cast their votes in favour of Kalpana Soren. Notably,the above exit poll is not the same as the official elections results. 

The official Lok Sabha Election Results 2024 will be declared on June 4 by the Election Commission of India. 

Gandey by-poll was held on May 21 when 68.26 percent of total 3.16 lakh voters exercised their right to franchise. Kalpana Soren who contested the by poll on the JMM ticket was campaigned by many INDI Alliance partners including RJD leader and ex Bihar CM Tejashwi Yadav. 

Reports claimed that Kalpana Soren campaigned for herself in absence of her jailed husband Hemant Soren and succeeded in gaining sympathy of tribal voters as well as their counter parts of the minority Muslim and Christian community. 

Her contest was against Dilip Verma of the BJP. The Gandey seat fell vacant after the resignation of Sarfaraz Ahmad who was elected unopposed as Rajya Sabha MP.
