Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren wants the Union Civil Aviation Ministry to build a new airport in Sahibgunj district in Jharkhand.
Sahibgunj, located in the north-east of Jharkhand and situated on the banks of the Ganges, which celebrated 17th May as Foundation Day of the District, is close to Bihar, Farakka Barrage Township in West Bengal and close to India- Bangladesh and China borders.
The CM thinks it is an appropriate town to have air connectivity with a modern airfield/airport.
So, in a letter( enclosed with this report) dated July 23 to Union Civil Aviation Minster Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu, CM Soren has apprised him of the above facts and appealed to him to consider building a modern airport in Sahibgunj.
Sahibgunj, a district where the Barhait Assembly constituency represented by the CM Soren falls, is located in the northeast of Jharkhand and situated on the banks of the Ganges.
The CM Soren has raised his demand for the airport in Sahibgunj after the Union Finance Ministry released the Economic Survey Report 2024 on July 22 mentioning that “India needs a lot more airports in 5 years as development dreams add wings”.
Right now Jharkhand has four airports- Birsa Munda Airport, Ranchi, Deoghar Airport, Bokaro Airport, and Sonari Airport in Jamshedpur.
If CM Soren’s demand is met by the Union Civil Aviation Ministry and Sahibgunj gets an Airport, the number of airports in Jharkhand will increase to five.
