Investigations revealed that assistant sub-inspector of police (ASI) Rahul Kumar Singh was poisoned to death inside police station in Ramgah on July 22, post mortem report filed by doctors of Forensic Medicine and Toxicology, RIMS, Ranchi, reveaked.
Rahul, who hailed from Bhagalpur in Bihar, was deployed on traffic duty on the Ramgarh-Barkakana state highway near Banjari temple, approximately 2 km from Ramgarh town in Jharkhand.
ASI Rahul Kumar Singh’s poisoning to death is directly linked with a case of theft.In this theft case, Ajay Kumar Sahu,the Officer - in- Charge of Ramgarh Town police station, arrested a 21- year old youth named Ankit on February 21.
Ankit died inside the police station. OIC Sahu described his death to suicide by “ ganging himself to death in bathroom”. This prompted National Human Rights Commission to order a probe. Subsequently, the inquiry by the police revealed that he was “beaten to death” in police custody.
Prior to this OIC Sahu, in order to save himself from the charge of “ beating Ankit to death” reportedly put “pressure” on ASI Rahul Kumar Singh to “describe Ankit’s death to suicide.”
This was not acceptable to Singh, who proceeded on leave for 20-25 days.
Singh is also learnt to have informed Hazaribagh SP Dr Vimal Kumar about the “ pressure” being put on him by OIC Sahu. Instead of taking action against him, Dr Kumar looked the other way.
However, after Rahul Kumar Singh joined duty and was in uniform,he was declared dead inside Ramgarh police station on July 22.
The OIC Sahu led team again committed a crime . He declared ASI Singh’s death to suicide. But the post mortem report prepared by Ranchi based RIMS doctors is learnt to have attributed his cause of death to “ poisoning.”
Already the DGP Ajay Kumar Singh has not only suspended OIC Sahu and transferred SP Dr Vimal Kumar Singh, but had ordered a probe into the death of ASI Singh. The probe was conducted by DIG, Hazaribagh. He has submitted his report to the DGP, it is learnt.
The family members of the late ASI Rahul Kumar Singh who has left behind his wife, two sons and a daughter have demanded that a case of murder be slapped on OIC Ajay Kumar Sahu.
