Even as Assam CM and BJP’s Jharkhand co-incharge Himanta Biswa Sarma, who shared a picture of Champai Soren with Union Home Minister Amit Shah at his residence in New Delhi before announcing the veteran tribal leader Champai Soren’s official entry into the saffron party in Ranchi on August 30,many an eye brows were raised over his silence.
None of the JMM leaders have spoken a word about the announcement made by Himanta Biswa Sarma about the entry of its rebel leader Champai into the BJP.
Even Champai has not uttered a word on whether he is going to join the BJP. He has not even quit his party JMM or resigned from the post of Cabinet Minister he continued to hold till now.
Unofficially, however,The Indian Express report has quoted its own JMM “sources” as saying,”It is great news for us because Champai Soren is exposed now. It could have been difficult for us had he run independently( and not as candidate of the BJP), as he could have taken a large vote share from the JMM.”
Notwithstanding this portrayed opinion ,the politics of silence of the JMM and its rebel Champai Soren appears to be part of a well chalked out plan of the BJP and rebel JMM leader Champai Soren and his followers in Saraikela and Chaibasa area known as Kolhan division of Jharkhand comprising East Singhbhum, Seraikela -Kharsawan, and West Singhbhum districts.
JharkhandStateNews.com understands that Champai Soren has chosen to cross over to the BJP without any conditions.
He will quit the JMM and the post of Minister before joining the BJP in Ranchi on August 30.He is expected to join the saffron party with his son Babulal Soren.
The BJP is expected to gain as Champai is a popular tribal leader who had won the Assembly seat of Saraikela for seven consecutive times since 1991.
After the arrest of Hemant Soren, the sympathy of the tribals moved to JMM, leading to the BJP losing a couple of seats like that of former Union minister Arjun Munda in Khunti.
Champai Soren, one of the senior-most leaders in the JMM, was sworn in as the chief minister of Jharkhand on February 5 after the sitting chief minister, Hemant Soren on January 31 was arrested by ED. Champai Soren was made to step down in July once Hemant Soren was out of jail and was reinstated to the post of the chief minister.
Over the fortnight , Champai Soren had dropped multiple hints on social media about his intent to find his political feet in another party.
He, in fact, went on to say that taking retirement from politics was not an option given the fact that he fought for the cause of the people for more than four decades of his political life.
