The mango season is over.Yet, the gift of a pack of mangoes sent to the Congress MP Rahul Gandhi among others by the Islamabad embassy in New Delhi last month,is yet to be forgotten.

The letter ( enclosed below) authorising Mr Mohammed Tauqir, Staff Member, Pakistan High Commission, New Delhi, issued dated August 6,2024, by Asif Khan, Minister(Political)/ HOC, to distribute 06 cartons to Rahul Gandhi among seven Members of Parliament is worth taking note of.

The letter has gone viral in social media as it mentions the names of Congress MP Rahul Gandhi and other MPs including Shashi Tharoor and Kapil Sibal.

Soon after the mango cartons were being distributed in New Delhi, a political storm took place. First to react was the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Union Minister Giriraj Singh who is on record having accused Rahul Gandhi and other Congress leaders of having ‘napak’ (impure) ties with Pakistan.

“Some time ago, Rahul Gandhi said he doesn’t like mangoes from Uttar Pradesh. Now, the Pakistan High Commission has sent mangoes to him. He should clarify what else he likes. Did he go to Pakistan to ask for help in removing Modi?"

This was said by Union Minister Giriraj Singh on August 7 as he targeted the Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Rahul Gandhi.

Now, ahead of the Assembly polls in J&K and Hariyana, the BJP has leader Mahesh Singh has pounced on Rahul Gandhi. “ The gift of Mango from Pakistan High Commission to these Congress MPs shows their pro Pakistan face.”
