As the campaigning for the second phase of polls intensified, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Saturday criticised Modi Govt’s move to rename Sarai Kale Khan chowk in Delhi after “ Bhagwan” Birsa Munda, a legendary tribal hero.

On the occasion of the 150th birth anniversary of Birsa Munda on Friday, the Modi government unveiled his statue at the above chowk and stated that the move aims to pay tribute to tribal freedom fighter.

Simultaneously, PM Modi also unveiled a postal stamp and a Rs 150 denomination silver coin at a programme in Jamui in Bihar. Reacting to it, Soren took to X on Saturday and wrote:

“This is the bus stop- the square named after our lord Birsa Munda. If this is not an insult, then what it is? Was there no other suitable place in the capital city of Delhi to honour the deity of our tribal people, in keeping with their prestige and our faith?Couldn’t Central Vista be named after the Lord? This is an insult to all the tribals/indigenous people of the country, including Jharkhandis. We demand the Central government to immediately withdraw this move and give our Lord, our hero, the place befitting his dignity, our faith.”
