At the 55th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), students and delegates were engaged in a captivating discussion on “The Larger Impact of Cinema and How AI will Change the Course of Entertainment Industry”.

The discussion between Shri Sudipta Bhattacharya, CEO of the Adani Group, and film producer Mahaveer Jain.

The In-conversation session was held at Kala Academy in Goa.

In his opening remarks, Shri Bhattacharya opined, “AI will be more of an aid in short term, but in long term it will be the replacement.”

Elaborating on the idea, Shri Bhattacharya highlighted how there is no adequate feedback system in place as of now. But in the future, Artificial Intelligence will be able to gather real-time feedback on inputs from around 500 individuals.

After a thorough computation, the best plot will be created that will be able to grab attention from all directions. Adding to this, Mr. Jain noted Shri Bhattacharya's bold prediction that, in the coming decades, artificial intelligence could enable the production of one film every day.

Elaborating further, Shri Bhattacharya remarked, “Suddenly, you realize that I don’t need physical infrastructure, a set, or cameras. I don’t even need to write a script. All I need is a great lab, and I can weave it all together in just one day”.

Mr. Jain further raised an important question about the pros and cons of AI and the need for potential restrictions to maintain balance.

Shri Bhattacharya cited the example of cryptocurrency, noting how some countries impose strict regulations while others operate with little to no oversight. He observed that nations with excessive restrictions often lag behind in progress. However, he also cautioned about the delicate nature of regulation.

Without certain necessary restrictions, social equilibrium could be disrupted. He emphasized that governments must carefully evaluate and take thoughtful steps in this regard.

In conclusion, Shri Bhattacharya reaffirmed the inevitable rise of AI and the transformative changes it will bring. While acknowledging the loss of certain jobs, he expressed confidence in humanity’s ability to create new opportunities. The session ended on an optimistic note, envisioning a future shaped by artificial intelligence.
