All eyes are on three issues. One,will Kalpana Soren become Minister in her husband Hemant Soren Cabinet?
The question has gained ground mainly because Kalpana Soren has emerged as a popular woman Adivasi leader in the state.
During both the pre- poll period when Hemant Soren was in Jail and when she campaigned for the JMM and implemented Maiya Yojna, Kalpana attracted audience and the media through her gestures and firing speeches.
In any case, the four - day special session of the state assembly is slated to begin on December 9 and end on December 12.
Two, is the issue connected with the Cabinet expansion. As Chief Minister Hemant Soren took oath of office on Thursday,he preferred not to let any other leader join his Cabinet.
In the 81- Member strong Assembly, 12 Ministers, including Chief Minister, have to take oath. In the previous term, the CM Hemant had nominated 10 Ministers leaving one post of Minister vacant. Now, discussions have intensified as to when the Hemant Soren cabinet will be expanded.
However, it is also being speculated that the cabinet expansion can happen before or after the special session when all elected MLAs will take oath. Already, Protem Speaker Stephen Marandi was nominated to run the Assembly. Next, the Soren government has to nominate the Speaker.
If insiders are to be believed,ex Speaker Rajendra Nath Mahato will again be nominated as Speaker by the Soren government.
The delay in Cabinet expansion is understood to be mainly due to the Congress party’s indecisiveness on the issue. Jharkhand Congress State Vice President Manishanker said that just like in the previous government, this time too four ministers will be made from the Congress quota.
There is a discussion about the Cabinet that there will again be four ministers from Congress. Who they will be and what portfolios they will get are the subject of prime discussion between the CM Soren and the Congress leaders.
This is likely to decided by the Congress high command and the CM Soren.
However, JMM spokesperson Manoj Pandey has referred to the view of the CM Soren who, he said, may expand the cabinet within two to three days.
All the INDIA allies need to discuss with the leaders as well as hold discussions about giving representation by including everyone.
JMM sources say that possibility thatKalpana, who won from the Gandey Assembly constituency with a margin of more than 17,000 votes, will be inducted into the Hemant Soren government “could not be ruled out” as a minister on the state’s 12-member cabinet.
She is among the 12 women MLAs who were elected in the Jharkhand Assembly elections 2024 — with three JMM, five Congress, and four BJP lawmakers.
