In the ongoing fight against extremist groups in Kolhan, PLFI (People’s Liberation Front of India) area commander Lambu was killed in an intense encounter with a specially constituted team of Chaibasa police.
The operation took place in the dense jungles of Tomrong village, located under the jurisdiction of Tebo police station, on Saturday.
The Chaibasa police, acting on credible intelligence inputs, launched a well-coordinated operation to apprehend Lambu, who was wanted in several cases of extortion, murder, and other criminal activities in the region.
The team, comprising personnel from district police and special task forces, was strategically deployed to intercept the commander and his associates.
According to police officials, the encounter began when the team approached a suspected hideout in the jungle. Lambu and his associates opened fire, prompting the police to retaliate.
The exchange of gunfire lasted for nearly an hour, during which Lambu was fatally injured. His associates reportedly managed to escape deeper into the forest, and a manhunt is currently underway.
Following the encounter, the police recovered a cache of arms and ammunition from the site.
These included sophisticated weapons, country-made firearms, and several rounds of ammunition.
In addition, police found documents and other materials that may provide crucial insights into the activities and networks of the PLFI in the region.
