For the first time, the bureaucracy in the state Assembly of Jharkhand will be led by an Adivasi. The state government has promoted Joint Secretary, Manik Lal Hembrom and posted him as Secretary, Jharkhand Assembly. 

Hembrom will succeed Syed Javed Haidar who retired and Hembrom took the charge on December 1, 2024. 

Now, when the special session of the Assembly begins on December 9 to end on December 12, when newly elected 81 MLAs will take oath, Hembrom will head the Assembly bureaucracy.  

Since it was established in 2000, Assembly set up of officers and staff was headed by non -Adivasi. Hembrom is its first Adivasi Secretary. 

The special session of the Assembly will operate under the Protem Speaker Stephen Marandi. Apart from administrating oath of office to MLAs, the new Speaker will be appointed and Supplementary Budget for the financial year 2024-05.
