After getting elected as Speaker of the Assembly for the second consecutive term,Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) MLA Rabindra Nath Mahato was congratulated by the CM Hemant Soren.
Mahato was elected the Speaker of the Jharkhand Legislative Assembly on Tuesday (December 10, 2024) during the special session which began on December 9.
The Nala MLA is the first leader who has been elected as the Speaker for the second consecutive term. A total of seven panels have given the proposal to elect him. On the second day of the special session, Chief Minister Hemant Soren proposed the name of Mr. Mahato as the Assembly Speaker and JMM MLA Mathura Prasad Mahato seconded the motion.
Protem speaker Stephen Marandi held the vote through voice vote, and his name was unanimously supported by all the members of the house including the MLAs of Opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Mr. Soren and BJP MLA Babulal Marandi took him to the seat of the Speaker to be seated.
Mr. Soren congratulated him on being elected the Speaker for the second time. The Chief Minister said Mr. Mahato has played an important role in strengthening the dignity of the House.
The Jharkhand CM asserted that the Opposition as well as the ruling party has a role in the all-round development of the State. Mr. Mahato hails from Santhal Pargana division and won from the Nala Assembly constituency for the third consecutive time.
He is the only MLA who has become Speaker for the second consecutive time. No MLA has been able to win the Assembly elections while holding the post of Speaker.
However, Mr. Mahato has made this record. He first won the seat in 2005 but he lost in 2009 election. After that he has been winning the seat for three consecutive terms as the JMM candidate in 2014, 2019 and 2024.
