Believe it or not, scores of people in Odisha are moving around in woolen jackets and sweaters, a feature rarely witnessed in winter.
Every year, the temperature does not fall below two digits Celsius when winter garments are not required. It was never too cold in Odisha.
So, Odiya people were not required to wear cardigans, sweaters, hoodies, sweatshirts, etc. This time, however, the scene is different. Many people in Odisha wore proper jackets, sweaters, and full-length pants as cold-wave conditions gripped many parts of their state.
On Saturday, the mercury dropped to 4.6 degrees Celsius in G Udaygiri in Kandhamal district, the IMD said. Ten places in the state recorded temperatures below 10 degrees C in the last 24 hours, it said.
Semiliguda in Koraput district recorded 5.5 degrees Celsius, Phulbani in Kandhamal was at 7.5 degrees, Rourkela registered 8.7 degrees, Koraput was at 8.8 degrees, Jharsuguda and Angul were at 9 degrees, Daringibadi recorded 9.5 degrees, and Bhawanipatna and Chiplima registered 9.9 degrees.
Ten places in the state recorded temperatures below 10 degrees C in the last 24 hours, it said. Semiliguda in Koraput district recorded 5.5 degrees Celsius, Phulbani in Kandhamal was at 7.5 degrees, Rourkela registered 8.7 degrees, Koraput was at 8.8 degrees, Jharsuguda and Angul were at 9 degrees, Daringibadi recorded 9.5 degrees, and Bhawanipatna and Chiplima registered 9.9 degrees.
