At least 18 kanwariyas were killed and several others were injured after a bus they were travelling in collided with a truck loaded with cooking gas cylinders in Jharkhand's Deoghar district.

“In my Lok Sabha constituency of Deoghar, 18 devotees lost their lives in a tragic accident involving a bus and a truck during the Kanwar Yatra in the holy month of Shravan,” Godda MP Nishikant Dubey wrote in a post on X. “ May Baba Baidyanath give strength to their families to bear this grief.”

The accident took place at around 4:30 am near the Jamuniya forest, within the Mohanpur Police Station limits.

Prime Minister Sri Narendra Modi has condoled the loss of lives in the road accident in Deoghar. In a post on social platform X the the PMO India handle in post on X said:

“झारखंड के देवघर में हुई सड़क दुर्घटना अत्यंत दुखद है। इसमें जिन श्रद्धालुओं को अपनी जान गंवानी पड़ी है, उनके परिजनों के प्रति मेरी गहरी शोक-संवेदनाएं। ईश्वर उन्हें इस पीड़ा को सहने की शक्ति दे। इसके साथ ही मैं सभी घायलों के जल्द से जल्द स्वस्थ होने की कामना करता हूं:”
