The old issue of food safety has gained ground.On Tuesday,a day after the Narendra Modi government in New Delhi banned the use of potassium bromate as a food additive normally used in breads,there was a demand that Potassium iodate was needed to be removed from list of permissible additives.

In fact,Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) on Tuesday demanded that the use of Potassium iodate, another cancer causing element, should be removed from list of permissible additives.

“Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) yesterday removed two additives, namely Potassium Bromate(normally used in bread and bakery products) and Cyclamates (normally used in jams, jellies, marmalades)must be removed.
