*Residents in Purnadih village in Palamau submitted a complaint to Deori police station alleging an assault following a dispute during Durga Puja celebrations.

An alleged confrontation in Purnadih village left several people injured and prompted residents to seek police intervention. The incident highlights the importance of protecting individual dignity, resolving disputes peacefully and ensuring that allegations are addressed through due process.

From Objection to Alleged Assault

A dispute during Durga Puja celebrations in Purnadih village, under Deori police outpost in Hussainabad, Palamau district, allegedly escalated into violence, leaving several residents injured. According to a written complaint submitted by villagers on 18 October 2026, the disagreement began around midnight when members of the local Puja committee reportedly objected to the alleged inappropriate behaviour of some young men towards a girl.

The complainants claim that threats followed the intervention and that the confrontation escalated the next morning.

Attack Alleged on the Way to Japla

According to the complaint, villagers travelling on three motorcycles to Japla to collect prasad were allegedly intercepted, surrounded and assaulted. Women who attempted to intervene were also reportedly attacked. Residents believe the incident was connected to the previous night’s disagreement, although this link has not been independently established.

Among those identified as injured are 19-year-old Sonu Kumar Choudhary, who reportedly sustained head and hand injuries, and 35-year-old Rinku Devi, described as seriously injured. The injured were taken to Hussainabad Subdivisional Hospital. The complaint reportedly refers to four injured persons in total.

Complaint Seeks Police Action

Villagers have named several individuals in their application and sought an FIR, an impartial investigation, legal action against those found responsible and measures to prevent further confrontation. They have also raised allegations concerning remarks about religious activities.

The allegations remain unverified. The available report does not confirm an FIR, arrests or responses from the individuals named. The sequence of events and responsibility for the alleged violence must be established through investigation.

Justice Must Prevail; Peace Must Be Protected

Disagreements, however serious, cannot justify violence or intimidation. Allegations involving the safety of a child deserve careful attention, while every accusation must be examined fairly and lawfully. A prompt, impartial investigation can help establish the facts, protect those affected and prevent rumours from deepening tensions.

The strength of a community lies not in how it responds to provocation, but in its ability to uphold dignity, seek justice through the law and preserve peace for everyone.
