As the Durga idol immersion is slated to take place today ( October 21,2026), traffic restrictions and route changes remain heavily in force to accommodate the massive crowds.
This is expected during grand immersion processions (Dhasan or Murti Visarjan) marking the conclusion of Durga Puja in Ranchi, capital city of Jharkhand on Wednesday.
Notably, if you are navigating Ranchi or passing through major festive hubs, expect significant disruptions through out the day and late hours of the evening and early morning.
The district administration has issued orders prohibiting traffic from entering the city between 8:00 AM and 4:00 AM today and tomorrow morning.
Information available indicates that strategic drop gates and 144 barriers continues to be active on the outskirts (such as Piska More, Khelgaon, and Ring Road junctions) to divert incoming freight traffic.
As per the traffic police, Small Vehicles, Autos, and E-Rickshaws were banned from entering Main Road (from Kutchery Chowk through Albert Ekka Chowk/Firuayalal to Sujata Chowk) and the New Market to Kishoreganj Chowk stretch from 3:30 PM until 3:00 AM.
Durga Idol Dhasan (Immersion) Processions are scheduled to move and commuters can expect major thoroughfares heading towards water bodies (such as Ranchi Lake/Bada Talab, Chadri Talab, and Argora Pond) to be entirely closed or restricted to pedestrian traffic during peak evening hours.
If you must travel near festive zones, use one of the 23 designated city parking lots. Do not park on roadsides near pandals to avoid vehicle towing and further gridlock.
If you are slated to go to the Birsa Munda airport, allow an extra 45 to 60 minutes for travel times if your route intersects with any central transit zones in Ranchi.
