The Union Cabinet today approved the new power tariff policy with some features that aims to make solar energy cheaper, better regulation of state power companies and make efficient use of energy sources.
Speaking to reporters after announcing the decision, Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal said after a comprehensive review the new tariff policy has been passed which include the recommendations of the working group set up in 2012.
“There are 5-6 recommendations on renewable energy sector and cross subsidy charges in power sector which has been included in the new policy”, Mr Goyal said.
