Even as Coronavirus is spreading and the number rising by the day, medical staff who were working on daily wages were up in arms. They comprised as many as 750 lab technicians.

Although they were responsible for the collection and maintenance of swab collected from the suspected COVID-19 patients, they continued to protest in Ranchi by sitting in dharna and demanding higher wages and payment of their dues.

The Jharkhand Contractual Para Medical Employees Sangh leaders say that none of the state government functionaries had even contacted them, what to talk about addressing their grievance and demand.

However, mainly due to their strike, the number of patients'  COVID-19 swab testing has come down. Before their strike, almost 8000 COVID-19 tests were made. Now, the number has come down to 5000, it is learnt.
