By appointing Ex -CM Raghubar Das as Governor of Odisha, the BJP seems to have opened door for Ghar Wapsi of its veteran ex leaders in Jharkhand.
The Lok Sabha polls and Assembly elections are slated to be held in 2024. All out efforts may start to bring back ex super leaders and rope in leaders from other parties to strengthen the BJP.
The prominent leader among top ex -party men is Saryu Rai. In 2019, after he was denied ticket by the BJP under command of the then CM Raghubar Das, Saryu Rai had rebelled against him and the BJP.
Subsequently, while contesting as an Independent candidate Saryu Rai had not only defeated Das in his Jamshedpur ( West), but became one of the main reasons for the ouster of the BJP rule in the state.
This had led to emergence of the JMM led coalition comprising Congress and RJD to form the government in Jharkhand.
Now, with Raghubar Das out of the state, Saryu Rai may not have any objection to rejoin the BJP.Already, the BJP’s state incharge Laxmi Kant Vajpayee, state unit chief Babulal Marandi, ex -state party chief and MP Deepak Prakash have been in touch with Saryu Rai.
Notably, Rai had not done Ghar Wapsi mainly because Raghubar Das has been aggressively opposing him. The scene is different now when Das has become Odisha Governor. This simply means that he will not even contest Assembly polls, leaving
both Jamshedpur ( West ) and Jamshedpur ( East) seat vacant.
In 2014, Saryu Rai had won Jamshedpur ( East) seat. In 2019, faced with his rivalry he had contested from Raghubar Das’s seat- Jamshedpur ( West)- and defeated him there.
Another leader figuring in the BJP’s Ghar Wapsi is Janki Yadav. In 2014, Janki Yadav of the then party Jharkhand Vikas Morcha had defeated BJP MLA Amit Yadav in Barkatha Assembly constituency.
Later, Janki Yadav together with six MLAs of the JVM had joined the BJP.In 2019 Assembly poll, Amit Yadav had contested as an Indeoendent candidate and defeated Janki Yadav.
After JMM- Congress- RJD coalition led by CM Hemant Soren was formed,ex BJP turned Independent MLA Amit Yadav backed Soren government.
However, as an Independent MLA Amit Yadav had also voted for the NDA and BJP candidate Deepak Prakash. In recent past, he was spotted participating in the BJP meetings.
