* Police used water canons to disperse the BJP’s youth wing workers in Morahabadi maidan, Ranchi on Friday

The Jharkhand Police on Friday fired tear gas and used water cannon to disperse BJP youth wing Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha( BJYM)workers demonstrating against the Hemant Soren government over its alleged failure to fulfil 2029 poll promises such as “five lakh jobs” and “unemployment allowance”.

Led by the BJP's former CM Babulal Marandi and several top BJP leaders including Arjun Munda and CP Singh, the protesters gathered at Morahabadi maidan and raised slogans against the Soren government.

The police tried to disperse them by firing tear gas and water cannons after they refused to move. Amid monsoonal clouds overning in the sky, traffic in Ranchi remained paralysed through out the day in Kanke road and Morahabadi while the BJP and JMM continue to blame each other for the youths.

Addressing the protesters, former CM Babulal Marandi alleged that the JMM, which had promised to provide 5 lakh jobs to youths and unemployment allowance, is now facing losses of millions of rupees public funds due to corruption.

At several places in Ranchi city, tear gas and water canons were fired. Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha state unit President Shashank Raj was injured. Despite facing water canons,BYJM workers were not moving backwards. Ranchi SSP Chandan Kumar Sinha was standing near the Oxygen park.

The administration was using the loud spear to appeal to the agitators not to cross barricades.Yet, agitators pelted stones on police persons. A couple of police personnel were injured.

At Kantatoli chowk, the BYJM supporters broke the barricades. To disperse them, the police lathi charged them.

Also, the police fired tear gas and spread water canons.”Several agitators were injured”, informed an eye witness. The BYJM had announced to organise Akrosh rally at Morahabadi maiden by claiming to be attended by one lakh youths from across the state.

However, a day before the rally, the Ranchi district administration issued prohibitory order and put up barricades around Morahabadi maidan. All entry roads linked with Morahabadi maiden were blocked by armed police personnel.

Against this background, agitators stuck to their stand and marched forward on foot. This led to conflict between them and the police personnel.

The BJP leader and former CM Babulal Marandi has alleged that the Hemant Soren government was out to “ chowk the voice of the youth. It made a desperate attempt to fail the Akrosh rally by putting up barricades to prevent agitators enter into the city and reach Morahabadi where public meeting was held.”
