Timely action based on confidential intelligence has led to the arrest of three young men in Chatra’s Kunda police station area. The recovery of illegal firearms and ammunition has prompted a wider investigation into their alleged plans, criminal antecedents and possible links.
According to Sadar SDPO Sunny Vardhan, Superintendent of Police Animesh Nathani received confidential information on November 6 that a group of two to four youths with criminal backgrounds was planning a major crime using illegal weapons.
A special team was constituted under the SDPO’s leadership. Following searches at several suspected locations, police arrested three men identified as Mukesh Kumar, Nitish Kumar and Abhishek Kumar, all residents of the Kunda police station area.

Firearms and Cash Recovered
The police seized two country-made pistols, one regular pistol, three live cartridges, three mobile phones and ₹3,500 in cash.
Preliminary checks revealed criminal cases against two of the arrested men. An FIR (Case No. 192/25) is registered against Nitish Kumar at Sadar police station. Mukesh Kumar has six cases registered across Kunda, Pratappur, Lawalong and Manatu police stations, including allegations relating to attempted murder and violations of the Arms Act.
Investigation Extends to Possible Network
Police are questioning the accused to establish the nature of the alleged criminal plan, trace the source of the weapons and identify possible associates. Investigators are also examining whether the recovered firearms were intended for a specific offence.
The Message: Prevention Is the First Line of Public Safety
The operation highlights the importance of intelligence-led policing and coordinated action in preventing crime. However, sustained vigilance, investigation into illegal arms networks and accountability through due legal process remain essential to ensuring lasting public safety. The objective must be to make communities safer, not merely respond after an offence occurs.
