Jharkhand’s Ex-CM, Hemant Soren today withdrew his appeal against the ruling of the Jharkhand High Court, which refused to provide him permission to attend the Assembly session.

Soren withdrew his petition on the grounds that it was futile, as the assembly meetings had ended. However, Soren has kept the legal issue open for further review.

The Supreme Court granted permission to withdraw Soren's plea and has decided to review the legal issues of the case. In the meantime, Soren has been allowed to withdraw his petition challenging the Jharkhand High Court's decision.

Earlier, Hemant Soren had moved the Jharkhand High Court seeking its directive to facilitate him to attend the Assembly's Budget session, which began on February 23 and ended on March 2.

On February 28, the Jharkhand High Court had dismissed his plea. Prior to this, on February 22, a special court in Ranchi denied Soren permission to attend the Assembly session.

Soren has been in jail facing the ED’s charges of money laundering connected with a plot of land in Ranchi since he was arrested by the ED on February1.
